Dylan’s journey towards a better life was not an easy one – it meant facing unexpected adversities for himself and others and making tough personal decisions along the way.

Despite the pain and setbacks, he persevered and worked hard to get back to a good place in hopes of starting a career as a carpenter. His determination was met with the support of the employment counsellors at Gabriel Dumont Institute. They provided him with the guidance and opportunity he needed to enroll in the Indigenous Apprenticeship program. GDI is dedicated to assisting Indigenous youth and students in finding rewarding pathways in life. Supported by the Oyateki Partnership, this initiative was the direction Dylan chose to embark upon toward a good life. Dylan shares (0:52) his determination and hard work paid off, and he is now on the path he wants and deserves for himself and his family.

Indigenous Apprenticeship

Gabriel Dumont Institute Training & Employment (GDITE) Apprenticeship engages Indigenous youth in apprenticeship programs, pairing students with employers. Students work in a career trade of their choice, become indentured, attend technical training, and work toward achieving journeyperson status. They build trade time hours, have continual employment while improving technical and workplace skills, and learn their career options.
