The full list of supports a student can access through the oyateki partners is extensive, ensuring the whole person has access to what they need to live a healthy and successful life, in and out of school. A student expresses the impact that wellness supports have made below, in all aspects of the medicine wheel: spiritual, physical, mental and emotional.
“The wellness supports I have found most beneficial at SIIT are the on-site counseling services, the Cultural Centre with access to Elders, and the lunch and learn programs. The counselors have been a huge part of my personal and academic success.

Being able to see a counselor on-site has given me a safe space to talk about the challenges I face as a student, parent, and person in recovery. Knowing that there is always someone I can trust has helped me stay focused on my education, even when life gets tough.

The Cultural Centre and elders have also made a big difference in my life. When my family went through a serious crisis with my daughter’s mental health, the first place I turned to was the Cultural Centre. Meeting with an elder for prayers and guidance gave my family hope and strength when we needed it most. It reminded me that I wasn’t alone — that SIIT is more than just a school; it’s a community that cares for the whole person.

I also really appreciate the lunch and learn programs. These are not only educational, covering important topics like ADHD, learning techniques, writing styles, and alcoholism,

they also help students financially by offering $25 gift cards for participating. As a student and parent, these gift cards have helped me with groceries and gas when money was tight, and honestly, some weeks they were what kept me able to attend school.
Altogether, these supports have helped me balance school, family, and personal healing. They’ve allowed me to grow as a leader and support others as well — because when I’m doing well, I’m able to help my fellow students too”.
