SIIT took Virtual Reality headsets and simulators on the road to connect with high school age students in communities and events.
They visited high schools in northern communities, demonstrated at a youth conference and at career fairs, and made stops with the JobConnections bus to various communities in the province.
Students loved the experiences, getting to see the campuses of oyateki’s partners on the VR headsets and virtual demos of trades careers and work sites on the simulators and headsets..
Here’s a few comments they gave while enjoying wearing the headsets:
“Oh that’s what it looks like at the university.”
“Awesome!”
“What do you mean, that’s part of the job?”
(clients viewing the welding tab)
“Hey look at this common area, it looks inviting!”
“WOW, amazing!”
(clients viewing the SIIT campus)
“You mean I could see what it’s like to drive a truck?”

SIIT partnered with Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC) to provide VR presentations and simulators at STC’s Youth of Resilience Conference for high school students from seven communities. The students loved the technology-based learning about trades and careers!
